From the Rochester Mayor to kids barely big enough to hold a brush, more than 100 community members  helped paint the Rochester Elevator on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Merlin Bush and his crew of professional painters from CertaPro Painting did the surface prep work, priming and painting over 10 feet above the ground. Professional sign painter Jeff Young, of Articulate Signs, and his crew recreated the checkerboard sign at the elevator’s north end.

Historical society members and others from our community painted the elevator's lower portion. Local dignitaries included Rochester Mayor Jeff Cuthbertson and Council members Stuart Bikson, Ben Giovanelli and David Zemens.

The event also included a barbecue hosted by the Rochester Lions Club and the Rochester Fire Department. Hot dogs were provided by Gordon Food Service.

The cost of the painting was shared by partnering with the building owner and offset through in-kind donations of materials and services.
