A handcrafted Hold the elevator! scarecrow joined others around downtown Rochester in October 2005. Our scarecrow resided on the southeast corner of Main St. and University Ave.

Downtown Rochester merchants and organizations designed and built the scarecrows placed along downtown streets. The Hold the elevator! scarecrow was the work of Sue Wilson and Liz Golding of the Rochester-Avon Historical Society.

Dressed in a Hold the elevator! T-shirt, the scarecrow actually "held the elevator" -- a replica of the barn-like structure. The model had the Hold the elevator! Web site address painted on its roof.

The downtown event was part of the Rochester Hills Museum's "Outdoor Exhibit of Scarecrows." The scarecrows were on display at the museum during the Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 8, 2005, and then moved to downtown Rochester.
